Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 box Creamettes
  • 1 15 ounce can Hunt's Herb Sauce
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato wedges or stewed tomatoes
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 small can stems and pieces mushrooms
  • Oregano or Italian Seasoning (to taste)
  • 1 dash Worcestershire Sauce (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Slice onion thinly, cook until translucent. Push aside and brown the ground beef, gradually mixing in the onion. Let Creamettes be cooking at the same time. Chop up the green pepper and cook it with the onion, or cut in bigger chunks and throw in the boiling water of the Creamettes during the last minute or so of cooking. Drain together.
  2. When meat is brown, add everything else but the Creamettes, and get the taste adjusted to suit yourself. Then combine with Creamettes. Cover and simmer for another 5 minutes. Or cover and let stand until you can get them stopped on the card tricks and come to the table, then quickly warm thru.
  3. Serve with green salad, Italian or French or Greek bread [dressing?], garlic bread, a jug of wine, fresh or canned fruit for dessert. Top with sherbet if you like).

Recipe Notes

Jay Marshall’s name for it. The general recipe is familiar but this one has been made and fed to dozens and dozens of magicians. When Jay has unexpected men for dinner, he always says: “Make Glop.”

You can change the whole personality of this dish by using Marjoram and Rosemary instead of the Oregano.

Historical Notes

Creamettes is a brand of dry pasta. Elbow Macaroni is common in recipes of this type.
